IDentifEYE aims to teach children between 8 and 14 years the value of data they share and encounter online by means of an Augmented Reality game. A new element in the project is the use of an Augmented Reality game to teach media literacy. This relatively new technology is to serve as a modern type mirror in which the relationship between online data and identities is made more tangible. While in virtual reality games reality disappears, the Augmented Reality game preserves enough reality to sustain a link with the children’s real lives. IDentifEYE aims to help children internalize the relationship between the data they and others share online and the identities that seem to emerge from these data. Once they understand how data lead to identities, they are more aware of the risks of sharing personal information online. The goal is not to prevent children from using the Internet or specific sites, or to instill fear in them, but to empower them to move around the Internet more consciously and therefore more safely.
